Promotion and Marketing Focus
The medical education scenario in India brings several innovations. The advent of competency-based medical education (CBME) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels has brought in new opportunities and new challenges. Any innovation tends to focus only on what is conceptualized but leaves out what is not documented. The focus of CBME is rightly on competencies and how to teach and assess them but many important aspects seem to have been left out. Similarly, in the faculty development program, the focus remains on these programs, though, on a broader level, it is the 'peripherals' that will make a difference between success and failure. This book has primarily been designed to make planners and teachers aware of various issues that go hand in hand with the implementation of CBME. Divided into five sections, the book covers teaching and learning, assessment and evaluation, faculty development, online teaching and assessment, and special issues. Chapters under each section include important areas, which generally are not included in the conventional faculty development programs. Helping students learn using diverse learning styles, using multiple tools for assessing multiple competencies, providing academic leadership, educational scholarship, and managerial issues like teaching healthcare management, managing change, and handling concepts will enrich teaching for CBME. A section has been devoted to postgraduate training, especially about maintaining resident autonomy vis-â-vis patient safety.
