It starts from birth to menarche, reproductive period with anovulatory or ovulatory cycles leading to normal or a disturbed pregnancy, menopause with pre- and postmenopausal phases, and the relation with the malignancy of female genital tract. The salient features of colpocytogram, lymphocytogram and urinary sediment smears of the hormonal cytology in each phase are described under light microscope. The slides are prepared with the help of simple technique of exfoliative cytology, which is accepted all over the world. Colour microphotographs, contributed by Dr Usha Saraiya from the daily observations of her patients has added value. Dr Giovanni Miniello, an internationally known personality in the field of phase contrast microscopy, has contributed a chapter on the subject. This technique will be a boon for the practising gynaecologists who can use it in their daily practice without the help of a pathologist. This handbook will be of a great help to the postgraduate students in pathology and gynaecology during their training period, while it will be a valuable aid for a clinician.
