There is a paucity of
books focusing on trainees and practitioners, which deal with practical
aspects of urology in the Indian context. The Urological Society of India (USI)
has a vast pool of talented writers who have done original work in their chosen
domains. A work/volume approved, supported, scrutinized and reviewed by the
nation's largest association of urologist(USI) will not only have the stature
of authority but also the stamp of authenticity.
The book aims to provide a
practical approach to both common and difficult urological disease entities along
with best treatment policies which are practical, workable and capable of
producing good treatment outcomes in the Indian context. The volume shall
endeavour to make assimilation of the subject easy by providing crystallized
versions of difficult to cover material available in the literature of repute.
This is a multi-authored book and
each author has followed a fixed format prescribed for uniformity and ease of
reading. The format of the book is case based discussion format. Each chapter
starts with a words gist of the topic, followed by description of the case with
appropriate images and videos (Videos are QR coded and embedded). This is
followed by discussion of the case in a question–answer format as if the
examiner is asking questions to a student. At the end of the case a box is
inserted for important/salient points.
The book would serve to be an
important source of knowledge and information for residents in training and urologist
alike.
Dr. Arvind P. Ganpule, MS, DNB, MNAMS, is Vice Chairman of Urology and Chief of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital, Nadiad. A lead robotic surgeon, he has performed over 800 robotic procedures and is among the few surgeons worldwide skilled in robotic renal transplantation.
He has 194 PubMed-indexed publications, authored 26 book chapters, edited six books, and contributed to Campbell’s Urology, Hinman’s Atlas of Urology, and Smith’s Textbook of Endourology. He led India’s largest study on BPH, and has innovated surgical tools including the Nadiad bag, the 5/3 hybrid needle holder, and the microperc system.
Dr. Ganpule serves as Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Urology and is on the editorial board of World Journal of Urology. He has received the MIUC scholarship, the AUA-USI Chakravarty Fellowship, and multiple awards for his surgical videos and teaching. He regularly conducts workshops in India and internationally, including Nepal, Nigeria, Russia, Egypt, and Morocco.
Pankaj Nandkishore Maheshwari, MS, DNB, MCh, FRCS, is currently Head of the Department of Urology at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai. He is a respected teacher and serves as the Director of the DNB Urology Program (a three-year urology residency accredited by the National Board of Examinations) at Fortis Hospital.
He is a member of the editorial committee of the Indian Journal of Urology and serves on the review panels of over 25 national and international journals. He is also the Honorary Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of the Urological Society of India.
Dr. Maheshwari is recognized as a pioneer of HoLEP in India. He has served on the advisory board for establishing the SAARC Association of Urologic Surgeons (SAUS) and currently serves as a member of the scientific committee of SAUS.
