G.C. Banerjee graduated in 1956 in Agriculture from the University of Agra and subsequently obtained his Master’s degree in Animal Science from the same university. Following this, he spent two years as an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Fellow at the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, conducting research in Microbiology. He then proceeded to Cornell University, Ithaca, USA, with a fellowship, where he completed his PhD in 1970, majoring in Animal Nutrition with minors in Physiology and Biochemistry.
Dr. Banerjee has nearly two decades of experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Kalyani and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (Agricultural University). He served as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences for about two years and as Dean of Postgraduate Studies for approximately a decade. He has authored ninety scientific papers published in reputed national and international journals. He retired from his distinguished teaching career in 1996.
He is also the author of the book Poultry, aimed at undergraduate students as well as progressive farmers, and Feeds and Principles of Animal Nutrition, another significant contribution to the field. Prof. Banerjee has served as an examiner for MVSc and PhD candidates in over fifteen universities across India and has been closely associated with national-level committees and examinations for more than a decade.
