Dr. J. L. Vegad, BVSc (Gold Medalist), PhD Dr. J. L. Vegad was Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Pathology at Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (JNKVV), Jabalpur, and later served as Professor Emeritus of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. He completed his BVSc from Jabalpur, was Associate of IVRI (1960), and earned his PhD from New Zealand (1968) under a Commonwealth Scholarship. A pioneer in the study of acute inflammatory response in sheep and chickens, he published over 150 research papers, including 60 in leading British, American, and New Zealand journals. Three of his PhD students received the ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award, while he was honored with the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Award and several lifetime achievement recognitions. He served as Visiting Professor at the University of California, Davis (1988–89), President of the Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists, and member of the Governing Council of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences. He authored five books, including standard textbooks on veterinary pathology and poultry diseases.
