The first edition was produced to help the students understand the style and the method of answering SBA questions as hitherto there was a dearth of standard model question paper books. It contains the relevant clinical principles and knowledge required to answer SBA questions and detailed explanations for the answers. The first edition had unprecedented large sales and the author was invited to write the second edition after two years. The second edition has 103 more questions and 3 more chapters. It contains a very readable summary of all the recent knowledge which has been put forward by the RCOG,FIGO and other academic institutions globally. Though the emphasis of the book is mainly on undergraduates, the second edition covers most of the knowledge required for the MD and MRCOG examinations in a concise manner. The chapters and areas which are more suitable for postgraduate students have been indicated.
Dr. Eranthi Samarakoon, MBBS, MSc (Sri Lanka), FRCOG (UK)
Dr. Samarakoon is Senior Lecturer and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University of Peradeniya and Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She graduated with Second Class Honours in her MBBS and topped the Order of Merit in the MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Sri Lanka) Part 1 and Part 2 exams. She completed her postgraduate training at St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, and passed the MRCOG (UK) exam on her first attempt. Board-certified in Sri Lanka in 1983, she has been in active clinical practice since then.
Drawing on over three decades of teaching experience, she has trained medical students for the Final MBBS exam and postgraduate students for the MD and MRCOG examinations. She serves as an examiner for all nine universities in Sri Lanka and has published five well-received books in obstetrics and gynaecology. This second edition of her first book is a greatly improved version of the original.
