Venkateswaran Iyer, MD trained in pathology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He completed a fellowship in pediatric pathology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK, a fellowship in cytopathology at AIIMS, and served as consultant histopathologist at PGI Chandigarh before joining the Department of Pathology, AIIMS. A consultant cytopathologist for over 14 years, he is currently Professor of Pathology. His primary areas of interest include cytopathology and molecular pathology of Wilms tumor. He has published more than 140 research papers and has led multiple research projects on cervical cancer screening methods suitable for developing countries, including HPV testing on self-collected samples, cervical acid phosphatase staining, and HPV testing on cervical smear scrapings. He pioneered liquid-based cytology using ThinPrep in India from his laboratory.
