Pasala Dayaratnam, PhD (1962) Dr. Pasala Dayaratnam earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, in 1962. After a brief tenure with the Andhra Pradesh PWD and teaching at Andhra University, Waltair, he joined IIT Kanpur in 1965. Over a distinguished academic career spanning nearly 30 years, he taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, guided numerous research scholars, and supervised several sponsored research projects. He has served as a consultant in the design of complex industrial structures, tall buildings, towers, bridges, and shell structures. As a member of various Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Committees, he has contributed to the development of several structural engineering codes of practice. Dr. Dayaratnam has shown keen interest in innovative teaching methodologies, evaluation procedures, and testing techniques.
