This book is the outcome of 34 years of author`s teaching, research and extension experience in soil science. This book comprises eight chapters and an equal emphasis for discussion on various aspects is being given for all chapters. The book has been written and designed as per syllabi of the undergraduate studies of soil science of different agricultural universities of India and also of interest who are engaged in the studies of soil science. Each chapter of this book is arranged sequentially and rhythmically so that one can understand the subject matter easily.Chapters 5 and 8 are the new one and deal with chemistry of submerged soil, soil and water pollution respectively which would certainly be helpful for the students of agriculture. This textbook will meet the growing needs of soil science curriculum of different Indian agricultural universities.
Shivanand Tolanur completed his BSc (Agriculture), MSc (Soil Science), and PhD in Soil Science from the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, Karnataka. He has served as a Team Leader in several research projects and has demonstrated numerous research findings to the farming community. At the same time, he has contributed to the development of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) technologies through his research work.
He has made significant academic contributions by preparing six laboratory manuals in addition to authoring three textbooks, namely Fundamentals of Soil Science, Soil Chemistry and Soil Fertility, and Fertilizer and Integrated Nutrient Management, for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Over a span of 34 years in teaching, research, and extension, he has served in various capacities, including Research Assistant, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor. He is currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry at the College of Agriculture, Vijayapur, Karnataka.
