Over dependence on agricultural chemical and the indiscriminate use of pesticides have caused problems not only in control of pests, but also in possible increase of toxic hazards and environmental pollution. Hence a clear concept of plant protection under present day conditions and the principles on which they are based and the procedures to be evolved and adopted is necessary. This book attempts to cater to the basic aspects of plant protection, knowledge of different methods used at present and the future approach. Uptodate available information on different categories of pesticides, their methods of application toxic hazards involved safe storage and handling of pesticides, assessment of pests and losses caused by them, has been provided. Integrated pest control and non-chemical methods of control in view of limitations of chemical methods have been dealt with. Information on third generation pesticides have also been given along with methods so that they might find place in plant protection in future.
