The book up to date a number of changes and additions have been made in preparing this new edition. The use of germanium is now confined to certain types of diode. Accordingly information on germanium transistors has been eliminated except in Appendix A where descriptions of their method of manufacture have been retained to keep the historical survey complete. The chapter on digital techniques has been expanded to include an account of the circuitry used in digital stores. Information on switch-mode operation has been added to the section on power suppliers. Other changes have been made to eliminate dated information or to simplify or clarify the text.
