This is the completely rewitten, thoroughly revised, and substantially updated edition of Pathophysiology which is still the only book of its kind published in India. Since the release of the first edition, knowledge of pathophysiology of various clinical disorders has expanded to the extent that practically all the chapters had to be rewritten. A prominent change in this edition is that the chapters in the book have been reduced from a total of 52 to 30, eliminating the chapters which dealt with only the physiologic or clinical aspects and had little discussion of pathophysiology. As a result, pathophysiological aspects of disorders have been discussed in greater depth and detail. A large number of figures have been changed and many new figures added to provide better understanding of the text. This edition shall prove to be an ideal handbook for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in clinical medicine, and maintain its due relevance as a text to Bpharm students.
R. K. Marya, MD, PRD
Prof. R. K. Marya is currently Professor and Head, Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Quest International University of Perak, Malaysia. He has over four decades of experience teaching physiology to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in India and abroad, including Iraq, Libya, Mauritius, and Malaysia.
He is a renowned researcher with approximately 100 publications in national and international journals of repute. He has received several awards for his research work and has supervised more than 30 postgraduate theses. Prof. Marya has also served on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology for many years.
Prof. Marya has been an examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students in medical colleges across Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Internationally, he has served as an examiner at various medical universities in Iraq, Libya, and Mauritius. He has also been an examiner for the National Board of Examinations, India.
His extensive experience as a teacher, examiner, and researcher has given him deep insight into the subject of physiology, which culminated in the publication of this book in 2006.
