Kirtana Raghurama Nayak MBBS, MD is currently Professor and Head, Department of Physiology, and former Head, Department of Medical Education, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, MAHE. With 20 years of teaching experience, she has trained both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, as well as students from allied health sciences. With her interest in educational research, she has published several articles on innovative pedagogy, curriculum development, and integrating ethics and communication skills in undergraduate training. She has introduced new and clinically relevant practical exercises in physiology, such as simulation-based learning, autonomic function testing, and hands-on exercises with computerized spirometry. Learner-centric small group teaching methods, such as case-based learning, team-based learning, and clinical skills lab and simulation-based learning, became a regular feature in the physiology curriculum at KMC, Manipal.
