It caters to the need of the students of undergraduate programmes in Horticulture/Agriculture/Forestry being offered in various State Agricultural Universities and also to the students of Botany courses of the conventional Universities. It will also serve as a handbook for extension personnel and progressive growers of these crops.
Prof. N. Kumar is Former Dean (Horticulture) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore. He obtained his B.Sc (Horticulture) in 1976, M.Sc (Agri.) in Floriculture in 1978, and Ph.D. in Horticulture in 1989 from TNAU, earning five gold medals for academic excellence and seven additional awards from other organizations for his contributions to horticulture.
He has published over 100 papers in national and international journals, contributed chapters to four edited books, and authored three textbooks in horticulture. With more than 30 years of undergraduate teaching and 25 years of postgraduate teaching experience, he has guided 16 Ph.D. and 21 M.Sc. (Hort.) students.
Prof. Kumar has organized 17 national and 3 international events in horticulture as Organizing Secretary and has visited 19 countries to participate in international symposiums and conferences. He has been honored as Fellow of the Association for Improvement in Production and Utilization of Banana (AIPUB), NRCB, Trichy (2007), received the ISHS Medal from the International Society for Horticultural Science, Belgium (2008), and was conferred Fellow of the Horticulture Society of India, New Delhi (2012) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of horticulture.
