He graduated in modern medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, completed his MD (psychiatry) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and MA in psychology from Kerala University securing first rank in the examination. He joined Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical Mission Hospital (later renamed as MOSC Medical College and Hospital), Kolenchery, Kerala, and served as Head, Department of Psychiatry, MOSC Medical College and Hospital.
