Herbal medicine makes up an important component of the trend towards alternative medicine. Herbalism is one of the ancient historical traditions that use nature`s by-products for curing diseases. Herbal medicine embodies study of botany using plant materials such as seeds, roots, leaves, bark, flowers, and oils for medicinal purposes. It is recognized by WHO as the second largest therapeutic system in use in the world. Some of the major drivers for the global herbal medicine market are rising in elderly population, growing consumer awareness on the use of herbal medicines, slight or no side effects, and the release of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) for dietary supplements by the FDA.
