Aparna Chatterjee

Dr. Aparna Chatterjee, MD (Anaesthesia), FCARCSI (Dublin), is Professor and Head (Division of Pain), Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain at Tata Memorial Centre and Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. A gold medalist from Grant Medical College and Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals, she is a Fellow of the College of Anaesthetists, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She joined Tata Memorial Hospital in 2002, where her interest in cancer pain management developed. She is dedicated to cancer pain relief, training of anesthesiology trainees and nurses, and development of pain management protocols. A postgraduate teacher and MD examiner, she organizes academic courses and contributes to national guidelines on cancer pain management. She has several publications and serves as a reviewer for leading palliative care journals.

Sumitra Bakshi

Dr. Sumitra Bakshi, MD, DNB (Anaesthesia), is Professor and Departmental Lead for the Acute Pain Service (APS) at Tata Memorial Centre and Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. An active member of the APS since 2006, she has played a pivotal role in elevating the service to international standards through training and exposure at leading global institutions, including MD Anderson Cancer Center (USA), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (USA), Toronto General Hospital (Canada), Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Australia), and Royal Perth Hospital (Australia). Her ANZCA award-winning clinical work in regional analgesia introduced effective opioid-sparing techniques as alternatives to epidural analgesia in selected patients. An innovative thinker, she developed a unique digital platform for capturing and analyzing APS clinical data, now being replicated across Tata Memorial Centre hospitals. She leads postgraduate training in perioperative pain management and founded the annual Education in Cancer and Acute Pain (ECAP) program in 2012. Dr. Bakshi has published over 90 articles, contributed chapters to seven major reference texts, including the UICC Manual of Clinical Oncology, and received the Best Reviewer award from the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia in 2019.
