Transesophageal echordiography (TEE) has now become a standard monitoring tool inside a cardiac operating room. The present-day cardiac anesthesiologist is expected to be familiar with this imaging tool that has now become a part of the curriculum of the cardiac anesthesiology training program. Unlike most other imaging techniques, TEE is operator dependent and the quality of image produced (and its interpretation) depends on him. The first step in learning TEE is to be familiar with the normal and the common abnormal images. This atlas will go a long way in fulfilling this objective, its key features are:

Deepak K. Tempe, MD, FRCA (London), FAMS, FIACTA, FTEE, FICA, is a renowned cardiac anaesthesiologist. A graduate of Government Medical College, Nagpur, he joined the G. B. Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, New Delhi, in 1982, where he developed cardiac anaesthesia services and postoperative critical care.
He served as Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi (2013–2017), was designated Professor of Excellence by the Government of India in 2018, and superannuated in 2020. Currently, he is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi, and other institutions.
A recipient of the Dr. B. C. Roy National Award, Prof. Tempe also holds the Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA, London). He has contributed chapters to Miller’s Anesthesia (7th and 8th editions), served as Chief Editor of the Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, and is presently Section Editor of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. He is a widely invited faculty at international conferences.
Suruchi Hasija, MBBS, MD, DNB, DM (Cardiac Anaesthesia)
Dr. Suruchi Hasija completed her MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College in 2002, MD in Anaesthesiology from Maulana Azad Medical College in 2006, and DM in Cardiac Anaesthesia from AIIMS in 2009.
She served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at GB Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (formerly GB Pant Hospital) until 2012. She later joined the Department of Cardiac Anaesthesia at AIIMS as Assistant Professor and is currently working as Associate Professor in the same department.
She is an active academician with numerous scientific publications to her credit.
