Usha Kiran MBBS, MD (Anesthesia) is former Professor and Head, Department of Cardiac Anesthesia,
Cardiothoracic Sciences Center, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She has been practicing
cardiac anesthesia and intensive care for over 30 years. She has made all efforts to start DM degree course in
cardiac anesthesia. She has been the Chairperson of the Board of Examination for DM in Cardiac Anesthesia
for 10 batches.
She has conducted research and presented her papers in USA, UK, Australia, Russia, South Africa, Asia and all over
India. She has attempted to combine spirituality and medical sciences by doing research in this field with financial
grant from Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Government
of India.
She is chief editor of Textbook of Vascular Anesthesia published under CBSPD banner, has written three educational
books, and contributed chapters in various books. She has to her credit more than 250 scientific papers published in
various national and international journals. She has received three international and 15 national awards for her
research work. She received 'Rashtriya Gaurav Award' in 2007, and Life Time Achievement Award was conferred on her
by the then President of India Pratibha Patil in 2010. She was awarded Fellowship of Indian Association of Cardiovascular
Anesthesia in 2012 and Fellowship of Indian College of Anesthesiology in 2013.
