Disorders of Lens and Cataract Surgery, a volume of MSO series in its second edition presents an updated and thoroughly revised text which provides a comprehensive coverage of the Disorders of Lens and Cataract Surgery. The text matter is complete and up to date with recent advances incorporated. Organization and layout of the book into two sections, appreciated by the readers, has been retained as such: Section I. Disorders of Lens: Basic and Clinical Aspects. It includes six chapters devoted to different clinical and basic aspects of crystalline lens and its disorders. Section II. Cataract Surgery: It comprises 14 chapters devoted to different aspects of various surgical procedures including a chapter each on evolution of cataract surgery, anaesthesia for cataract surgery, IOL power calculation, ophthalmic viscosurgical devices (OVDs), IOLs, preoperative work up and preparation for cataract surgery, different surgical techniques and complications of cataract surgeries and their management. All aspects of cataract surgery have been covered in depth. Since the present day cataract surgery has evolved over the years, as cataract refractive surgery, a chapter each has been devoted to biometry and 'astigmatism control in cataract surgery'. Intraocular lens implantation in the absence of posterior capsular support is described as separate chapter.
Prof. A.K. Khurana, MS, FAICO, CTO (London) is Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at SGT Medical College, Gurugram, Haryana, and former Senior Professor and Head at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, PGIMS, Rohtak. With over four decades of teaching experience, he has authored 21 books, published more than 260 research papers, and contributed chapters to several postgraduate reference books. He has also served as Editor of the Indian Journal of Strabismus in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Haryana Journal of Ophthalmology, and North Zone Journal of Ophthalmology.
Prof. Khurana received a WHO Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and a Certificate in Tropical Ophthalmology from the University of London. His honors include the Distinguished Author Award, HOS Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology, Lifetime Achievement Awards from SPOSI, NZOS, and ISMSICS, the National Lifetime Achievement Award (UKSOS), FAICO Fellowship, Gold Medal by IIRSI, and the Sushrut Samman, the highest award of the Forum of Ophthalmic Teachers of India.
