Anisur Rahman

Anisur Rahman, MD, PhD, FRCP, is Professor of Rheumatology in the Division of Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University College London (UCL), United Kingdom. He graduated in medicine from the University of Oxford and trained in rheumatology in London. He completed his PhD focusing on autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), and on the molecular mechanisms of tissue damage mediated by these antibodies. He joined University College London as a Senior Lecturer and was promoted to a personal Chair in Rheumatology in 2008. Professor Rahman is a clinical scientist who divides his time between basic and clinical research. He is a member of the BILAG and SLICC groups of investigators working on SLE and has more than 200 publications to his credit. An outstanding educator, he has received the UCL Top Teacher Award multiple times. He was awarded the Michael Mason Prize for research on SLE by the British Society for Rheumatology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Amit Aggarwal, MD, DM, is Professor and Head of the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She is an alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and was among the first in India to obtain a DM in Clinical Immunology. She received advanced training in immunology and rheumatology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta; and the University of Oklahoma Hospital, USA. Her primary research interests include juvenile arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She has published over 300 research papers, edited a book on pediatric rheumatology, and authored numerous book chapters. She established a multi-institutional SLE network in India. A former Editor of the Indian Journal of Rheumatology and President of the Indian Rheumatology Association, she is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, and National Academy of Medical Sciences.
