Dr. Uday Khopkar is a leading expert in dermatology with specialized training in skin pathology from the USA in 1992 and 1994-1995 under renowned dermatologist Dr. A. Bernard Ackerman. He established a nationwide dermatopathology referral system in India, receiving over 5000 biopsy referrals annually. He was a pioneer in adding photomicrographs to biopsy reports, enhancing clarity and education.
Dr. Khopkar introduced several groundbreaking treatments in India, including contact sensitizers for alopecia areata, PUVA and narrow band UVB therapy for vitiligo and psoriasis, and single-dose methotrexate regimens for psoriasis. He also popularized pulse therapy and rituximab for pemphigus. His research interests focus on autoimmune skin diseases and advanced diagnostic methods like dermoscopy, trichoscopy, and hair microscopy.
