Dr. David Johnson Victor is a former Professor of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras. He received his B.E. in Civil Engineering from the University of Madras (1953), M.Tech in Structural Engineering from IIT Kharagpur (1958), and Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin (1966), where he was a University Fellowship Holder. With over 45 years of experience in teaching, research, and consultancy, he has contributed significantly to civil and structural engineering. He served as Visiting Professor at Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan (1987–88), and has early experience in the State Highway Department. Prof. Victor has authored four textbooks and published over 75 research papers in national and international journals.
