Anand N. Malaviya, MD, FRCP (London), Master-ACR & APLAR, FACE, FICR, FAMS, FMASC, is widely regarded as the father of rheumatology and clinical immunology in India. After training under the legendary Prof. Robert Schwartz in Boston, USA, he returned to India in 1968 to pioneer these specialties. At the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, he established the country's first clinical immunology laboratory and immunology clinic, revolutionizing the diagnosis and management of systemic immuno-inflammatory rheumatic diseases (SSRDs). A prolific researcher, Prof. Malaviya has authored over 500 research papers, including a landmark 1968 Lancet study on low-dose methotrexate for inflammatory myopathies.
