Maintaining soil quality is vital to ensuring successful crops, and loss of soil quality is of particularly pressing concern in countries/regions where subsistence farming is widespread. The problem becomes even more acute if population increase is putting pressure on land resources.
This book collects together much of the current thinking and research on soil quality. Specific topics covered include modeling/prediction of surface runoff, sustainable and organic methods for nutrient management, remote sensing systems for analysis of drainage, bioremediation of heavy metals and hydrocarbons in soil, management of soil nitrogen content, and the effects of deforestation and reforestation on erosion.
