Over the coming decades, the geosciences face a number of challenges, many of which are centred around the recovery of raw minerals and oil and gas from hard-to-reach locations and hostile environments. It is also predicted that the competition for water resources will play an increasing role on the geopolitical stage.
This book describes specific research projects that have been carried out around the world to meet the ongoing need for improvements in geological data acquisition and analysis techniques. Subjects covered include spectral analysis, SWAT modelling and the development of equations for sediment yield prediction, spatial interpolation models, and fractal analysis and neural networks and their application to well log data processing and other geophysical fields.
In addition to examples taken from mineral prospecting and oil and gas exploration, this book will also describe some new achievements in other areas of geoscience including volcano behaviour and emissions.
