Since cryopreservation was first used in the middle of the last century, it has come to play an important role in medical diagnosis, biomedicine, livestock management and botany. This book describes recent developments and current state of the art in cryopreservation techniques, such as cytoprotectants used in vitrification, techniques for assessing the quality of preserved tissues, processes/protocols used to minimize contamination of biological samples, and cryopreservation of tissues containing several different cell types. Specific applications discussed in the book include dentistry, wildlife and plant conservation, crop propagation, and preservation of reproductive tissue from both humans and animals.
