This is the first of two volumes on computational fluid dynamics.
Since the middle of the last century, computational techniques have become indispensable for modeling 2D and 3D fluid flow in a vast range of settings. With over 35 chapters, this book describes some of the recent work that has been done to apply the techniques of computational fluid dynamics to specialist environments such as nanofluids, microchannels, sprays, blast waves, crude oils and flow of blood in microcapillaries. Case studies are taken from a number of diverse industries and activities, including aeronautics, sailing, nuclear engineering, fuel technology/automotive engineering, civil engineering, electronics, biotechnology, polymer science, biomedical engineering and water quality management.
The book describes general attempts to model phenomena including fluid structure interactions and turbulent boundary layers, and also focuses on some of the practical applications of particle image velocimetry, together with assessments of its limitations in these settings.
This book is essential reading for students and practitioners in any engineering and scientific disciplines where solution of fluid flow problems is required. We also hope that its broad, multidisciplinary scope will help to provide the stimulus for further research.
