He completed his MBBS and MD degrees from UCMS. Prof Banerjee has an experience of over 35 years in the medicolegal field. He is involved in teaching forensic medicine to undergraduate and postgraduate students besides handling the medicolegal work of the associated GTB Hospital.

He is a lifetime member of Maharashtra Medico-legal Association, Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, Indian Society of Toxicology, South India Medicolegal Association, and Associations of Health Profession Educators. He has been a reviewer for many journals like Journal of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, Journal of Punjab Academy of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Indian Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Journal of Forensic Research and Criminal Investigation, and Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology. He has given expert opinions in many medicolegal cases during his tenure. He has to his credit many research papers published in several national and international indexed journals; written three books entitled Comparison of CT Scan Findings with Autopsy Findings in Case of Head Injury Cases, OSPE in CBSPD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology and Review of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology; and contributed two chapters related to forensic medicine on “head injury” and “hanging” in an international book New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research.
