Descriptions

Total knee replacements are becoming increasingly frequent in our country, because of growing awareness and a large number of patients with knee arthritis. Most replacements perform exceptionally well for the first five years. The difference between once that last for twenty five years or longer and those that fail in less than five, is not because of the type of implant used, but the surgical technique. Knee replacement is an extremely easy surgery, but easier still to perform badly. Amiscalculation of a few degrees in a bone cut can make the difference betwen a spectacular success and a disaster. This book, though named a , is meant both for the beginner and the middle level surgeon, and is more like a very detailed instruction manual that teaches you how to do this procedure correctly and perfectly. The author, a pioneer in knee replacement surgery in this country, has shared his vast experience, in a simple language, profusely illustrated with his own attractive water colour drawings of the surgical procedure. With more pictures, drawings and photographs, than text; and written in a lucid narrative style, this book reads like a novel, but is educative as a journal. For surgeons about to begin doing this rewarding surgery, or someone with limited experience in knee replacements, this is an invaluable guide, which will teach you more than a knee fellowship in a reputed institute. For the established arthroplasty surgeon or an expert, the book is scattered with numerous pearls and anecdotes, making it a fascinating reading.
