He was also former Head of the Department of Electronics Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and director of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad. He has made significant contributions in experimental and theoretical research in areas of Microelectronics and photonics. I was fortunate enough to get a copy of this book from my friend. After going though this book it is felt essential from my part to write a small review of this very book with title ‘Optoelectronic devices and Optical fiber communication’. In modern science and technology Optoelectronics and Optical fiber Communication are two of the rapidly growing fields that deal with the transmission of data, voice and video over optical fiber throughout the globe. The subject focuses on the development of optical fiber communication systems and optoelectronic devices that are used to transfer data between two points. This book deals with semiconductor optoelectronic devices and components that find a major application in optical fiber communication and elaborately describes optical communication systems and their application in modern low-loss and high-bandwidth transmission systems as an alternative to conventional electrical communication systems. A comprehensive list of references to the original works related to the evolution of optical fiber communication systems is very helpful for the students for further study on this subject. One of the key areas of research in Optoelectronics and Optical Communication is Photonics. Photonics is the study of the generation, detection, and control of light.
