Edith D. Jonkman, BSc (Hons) completed her general nursing training in the Netherlands and undertook further training as a perioperative nurse at Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, UK. She later earned a BSc (Hons) in Critical Care Nursing from King’s College London. She specialized in adult cardiac surgical nursing for five years before moving to the Middle East in 2001 to gain experience in paediatric cardiac surgical nursing. She worked in the paediatric operating theatres at King Faisal Hospital, Jeddah, and later at King Abdulaziz (National Guard) Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During her career in the Middle East, she assisted in more than 3,500 paediatric cardiac surgeries. Through this book, she shares her extensive specialized experience, helping nurses worldwide anticipate surgical steps and assist effectively during complex, life-saving cardiac procedures using clear photographs, diagrams, and detailed procedural descriptions.
