Sabyasachi Sircar did his schooling from Cambridge School, New Delhi. After passing high school in 1977, he qualified for, but declined to take up, Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, and went on to graduate in Medicine from Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi. Never enamored by the practice of Medicine, which he found too strait-jacketed for his creative inclinations, he obtained his MD in Physiology from University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), University of Delhi. After brief stints of teaching at MAMC and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, Aligarh, he came back to UCMS where he has been working ever since. A prolific innovator in teaching, Dr. Sircar has to his credit several papers in the American Journal of Physiology (Advances in Physiology Education). He also developed computer-based coursewares in the early nineties. In 1995, he was the only one in the third world to be awarded the fellowship of the International Union of Physiological Sciences. In the course of his fellowship, he served as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin. Whether in India or abroad, Dr. Sircar has enthralled his students with his distinctive style of teaching and lucid expositions. Dr. Sircar`s research interest is in the field of electroencephalographic indicators of mental abilities and mental workload - an interest that stems from his passion for teaching. He loves to spend his leisure at home with his family. On an idle evening, he would turn to music, his first love, playing old melodies on the guitar.
