John O Ochei PhD, FIMLS is former Head, Department of Medical Laboratory, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. He was Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist and also incharge of the teaching laboratories in the Department of Microbiology, College of Medicine, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He obtained his Associate Diploma (bacteriology) from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (AIBMS), London, and started his career in Department of Medical Microbiology, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. He obtained his Fellowship Diploma (histopathology) from Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nigeria, MSc (microbiology) from University of Ibadan and his PhD from Pacific Western University. He has several years of experience as diagnostic medical laboratory scientist and the teacher of medical laboratory science in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Oman. He is the author of Medical Microbiology Laboratory Manual and has to his credit several scientific papers published in reputable journals. He has been a diagnostic medical laboratory scientist, educator, academician, a researcher and a mentor to a good number of people. Arundhati Kolhatkar PhD MLT DHA is former Professor in Medical Laboratory Science, Michener Institute of Education at UHN, Canada. She has been in the medical laboratory profession for over 50 years in variouscapacities and clinical settings including her own clinical laboratory. She obtained her BSc (microbiology/chemistry) from the University of Bombay, MSc (microbiology) from the University of Poona, Diploma in Hospital Administration from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Bombay, Associate Diploma of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, London, and PhD from the Pacific Western University. She has been involved in teaching medical laboratory science in India, Oman, and Canada. The purpose of this book is to help the students and professionals in medical laboratories to understand the basics of theory and implement these in their professional practice.
