Different types of machinery used in rice and other grain milling have been dealt with in detail. Special emphasis is placed on specifications, designs and testing procedures of modern grain dryers, husk fired furnaces and data on physicothermal and physico- chemical properties of cereal grains. The book is intended for the postgraduate and undergraduate students of Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology and allied subjects. It will also be useful for the research workers, designers and other professionals.
Amalendu Chakraverly is professor of Post Harvest and Food Engineering (PHFE) at Indian Institute of Technology. Kharagpur. Dr. Chakraverty has been engaged in R & D of cereal-parboiling. drying, milling and their utilization of by-products industries for last three decades. He received an intensive training in modern rice processing machines from M/s. Satake Engineering Co., Japan. He holds patents for various grain processing machines for commercial exploitation. Under his leadership novel technologies of preparation of solar grade silicon from rice husk and biodegradable plastics have been developed. Dr. Chakraverty published over 70 papers in national and international journal, proceedings etc. and authored another book on Biotechnology and Other Alternative Technologies for Utilization of blomass Agricultural wastes. The present book is practically an outcome of the author`s long industrial, research and teaching experience in PHFE.
