The fourth edition of the Textbook of Microbiology for Dental Students has been written as per the syllabus prescribed by Dental Council of India. Keeping in mind the requirements of dental students emphasis has been on the oral manifestations of various microorganisms. Each chapter has been carefully updated and expanded to include new, medically relevant, discoveries.

Laboratory diagnosis of various microbial infections has been summarized with the help of flowcharts. Each chapter ends with key facts and important questions. The former summarize the whole chapter and help the student for last minute revision for theory, practical and viva voce examination, and the latter help the student to know the type of questions asked in the examination. In recognition of significant contribution to the advancement of medical sciences, he was elected Member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) in 1985. He has been a Visiting Professor at University of Mauritius in 1989. He was awarded WHO fellowship on Laboratory Aspects of HIV/AIDS and STD at Community Health Surveillance and Laboratories Administration, Baltimore, Maryland (USA) in 1992. He was honoured by Indian Medical Association, Kaithal (Haryana) on the eve of Doctors` Day on 01.07.1999. He has been examiner for B.D.S., M.B.B.S., M.D., D.N.B. and Ph.D. microbiology of a number of universities. His biography including academic activities and research work has been published in Who`s Who in Medicine and Healthcare 2011-12 (8th Edition), N.J. 07922, USA distinguishing him as one of the leading healthcare professionals from around the world. Dr. Brij Bala Arora (04-03-1947 to 21-11-2014), M.D., was Senior Prof. & Head, Deptt. of Pathology, SGT Medical College, Budhera (Gurgaon). Earlier she was Senior Prof. & Head, Deptt. of Pathology, PGIMS, Rohtak. She had 42 years of experience in teaching pathology to medical and dental UG and PG students.
