The entire text is divided into eight sections (Sections I�VIII). Section I covers basic anatomy and physiology of different systems of human body, introduction of terminology related to medical science, and fundamentals of physics to understand operation theatre (OT) equipment. Section II relates to planning and management of OT, maintenance of asepsis and sterility in OT premises. Section III dwells on perioperative management of surgical patients and role of OT technologist. Sections IV and V cover common surgical procedures, anaesthesia and perioperative complications relevant to OT technologist. Sections VI and VII discuss how to sterilize and maintain equipment used in surgical procedures as well as common clinical procedures required during perioperative period. Section VIII describes the importance of communication and medical ethics for health care providers,including OT technologist.
Manjushree Ray MBBS, MD (Anaesthesiology), MAMS, MBA, FICA is Principal, Medical College, Kolkata, and has a teaching experience of more than 30 years. She has taught and trained undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, pharmacists, paramedical students and other health care providers. She has been President of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (2009), Indian Society for Study of Pain (2007-08) and Indian Science Congress, Medical Section (2011-12), in addition to being the editor of Indian Journal of Pain (2003�06). She has to her credit 83 papers published in different national and international journals. MM Ray MBBS, MS (Orthopaedics) is ex-Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics, Medical College, Kolkata, and now Senior Consultant, Peerless Hospital and Research Centre, Kolkata. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students for the better part of three decades. He served as examiner of orthopaedics in more than 15 premier universities of the country. Besides, he was President, West Bengal Orthopaedic Association, and editor of a journal in orthopaedics. He has to his credit more than 30 articles published in national and international journals.
