Textbook On Energy Resources And Management (Pb 2015)This book has been divided into ten chapters. Chapter 1 explains the general introduction of alternate energy resources and also the need for public awareness regarding the scope of electricity production from alternate energy resources. Chapter 2 discusses coal as an energy source along with the issues associated with its use and overexploitation. Chapter 3 discusses petroleum, natural gas and refinery products, their origin, principal products, properties, composition and uses. In Chapter 4 various aspects of wind energy, its basic principle, conversion system, energy conversion alternatives, basic components of a wind energy conversion system and classification have been discussed. Chapter 5 elaborates on hydropower projects in India and components of hydroelectric plants. It also explains classification of hydroelectric power plants and environmental aspects. Various aspects of magnetohydrodynamics (MHO) energy conversion, its principles, construction, power cycle for MHO generator, MHO system, materials for MHO generators, and merits and demerits of MHO system are discussed in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 explains general concept related to geothermal energy including types of geothermal energy sources, production well, application and benefits of geothermal energy. Chapter 8 explains nuclear energy, nuclear fuel, its storage and transportation, and energy from nuclear fission reactions. Chapter 9 discusses solar energy including solar collectors, solar energy storage, applications of solar energy and solar power plants in India. The text also focuses on topics like sustainable development, climate change, greenhouse effect, global warming, acid rain, ozone layer depletion and IPCC, UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol (Chapter 10).
