GC Banerjee graduated in 1956 in Agriculture from the University of Agra. He also obtained his Master's degree in Animal Science from the same university. Thereafter, for a period of two years, on an Indian Council of Agricultural Research Fellow, he was associated with National Dairy Research Institute. Karnal for conducting research work in Dairy Bacteriology.
Thus completing his formal education in India, he proceeded to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, USA with a fellowship from the same university and did his PhD in 1970 majoring in Animal Nutrition and minoring in Physiology and Biochemistry. Dr. Banerjee has been associated with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the University of Kalyani and the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (Agricultural University) for nearly three decades. He worked as Dean. Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences for about two years and as Dean, Postgraduate studies for about a decade. He has to his credit over 100 scientific papers published in reputed journals in India and abroad. He retired from his long teaching career in 1996.
He is also the author of Textbook of Animal Husbandry, a book for undergraduate students and also for all progressive farmers of the country. Feeds and Principles of Animal Nutrition is his other Significant contribution.
Prof. Banerjee had been appointed as examiners of MVSc and PhD candidates by over 15 universities of the country. For over a decade he had also been closely associated with national level committees and examinations.
L Mandal graduated in 1970 with 1st Class in Agriculture from the University of Kalyani. He also obtained his MSc (Ag) AH degree in Animal Nutrition from the same university securing first position in First Class. Thereafter, he obtained his PhD degree in Animal Nutrition from the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya in 1978 and his thesis work on "The Utilization of Karanja Cake in Poultry Ration" was a pioneering research on Karanja cake acclaimed globally at that time. Prof. Mandal has been associated with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (Agriculture University) and West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences for more than 35 years. He worked at various capacities in the University as Head, Deptartment of Animal Nutrition, Head, Department of Animal Science including Dean, Faculty of Agriculture. He has to his credit more than 105 scientific papers published in reputed national and international journals, apart from successfully guiding eight PhD students and a number of MVSC students in Animal Nutrition/Animal Science. He is the author of many professional books published in Bengali and English mainly for the farmers/unemployed educated youths interested for Animal Husbandry practices. He has been invited as an expert in various Animal Husbandry related programmes conducted by universities, Govt. organizations, NGOs, All India Radio and Doordarshan Kolkata. Prof. Mandal has been the paper setter and examiner of different universities and public bodies in the country.
