During the recent decades new diseases have been identified, new modalities of investigations and treatments have been formulated and medical education technology has witnessed significant changes. These significant changes have not replaced the good clinical history from the patient and elicitation of physical signs utilizing the faculties of sight, hearing, and touch, to make accurate bedside diagnosis. The line diagrams and photographs illustrate the methods employed to elicit the physical signs and provide classic examples of the diseased states. The chapters on abdomen, respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous system have been thoroughly revised in the light of advances in the clinical science. Dr. P.S. Shankar, Emeritus Professor and Director of M.R. Medical College, Gulbarga, is a recipient of Dr. B.C. Roy National Award as an Eminent Medical Teacher, Gifted teacher award of the Association of Physicians of India, Soviet Land Nehru Award, Rockefeller Scholar- in-Residence and Karnataka State Award. He has been a teacher of Medicine for over four decades and has authored 100 books including a Medical Dictionary and Medical Encyclopaedia. He was the President of Indian Chest Society and National College of Chest Physicians. He has delivered many prestigious orations and has been conferred Honorary Dotorate in Science from Gulbarga University.
